Growing up in an abusive environment, becoming homeless at an early age and pregnant soon after, it took a lot for Jennifer Maggio to create a healthy life for herself. But she did, and she soon soared to great heights in the corporate world, and then left it all behind in order to become a light in the dark for single mothers and disadvantaged or abused women the world over.
Writing is just one facet of Jennifer’s multidimensional outreach now, which includes a single parenting magazine, support groups for single mothers, many freelance articles, frequent public speaking, and her books. Her books are partly aimed at sharing her story and partly at teaching single mothers how to overcome the unique challenges they face.
Jennifer has an encouraging message to those who fear rejection in the writing industry, explaining that it’s no different than rejection you’d face in other lines of work.
“In what industry are you working that you won’t face rejection?”
Her most important advice to those who would be career writers is to remember that relationships come first and that writing books is about getting your inspiration onto paper. Having a healthy level of self worth and not putting too much pressure on your work to sell, Maggio says, is the best way to write books.
